We are pleased to announce that Hawaii Wing’s 2011 Aerospace Encampment will take place at Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA), located on the Big Island, from 13 to 18 March 2011.
At this encampment, cadets will learn about aviation and aerospace technology through classroom based learning, simulations, and hands-on training.
Aerospace training will be based on the cadet progression achievement modules in Aerospace Dimensions, 2nd Edition and complemented with many interesting hands-on practical exercises and activities. In addition, cadets will receive Radio Communications Operator training, Flightline Marshaller training, Global Positioning System (GPS), map reading, land navigation, and military compass training.
This year, an Aviation Unit will be training at PTA while we are there and we look forward to the possibilities of access to their pilots and equipment.
We invite you to participate as Cadet Students, Cadet Staff or Senior Staff. Invitations and details are being sent to all Hawaii Wing Squadron Commanders and Deputy Commander for Cadets (DCCs). Senior Members need not attend for the encampment’s entire duration but only during those days when they are able to help teach Aerospace Education modules or help with logistics. The only exception to this would be the encampment’s Safety Officer who must serve during the encampment’s duration.
This year we plan to enroll a maximum of 40 Cadet Students. Timely submission of your application will increase your chances of being selected. Encampment will take place during Hawaii State Public School spring break.
Unfortunately, inter-island transportation to the Aerospace Encampment must be member funded. Military air transportation is not available and Wing has no money available to fund inter-island transportation to the activity site. The Aerospace Encampment is a super activity. We encourage Squadron Commanders to consider fund raising projects to cover the cost of travel to the activity site.
Upon acceptance to Aerospace Encampment, participants will receive an information package with specifics regarding cost, transportation logistics, and required materials.
Application Deadline is 12 February 2011. Please mail applications to Capt Eduardo R. Zayas, HI WG Director of Aerospace Education at the address provided below.
